Level 3 builds on previously learned medical terminology while introducing more advanced concepts related to the gallbladder, nose, eye, ear, larynx, disease, cancer, flow/discharge, abnormal softening, hardening, deficiency, surgical incisions, surgically created openings, and spatial relationships such as between and within.
Students are challenged to distinguish closely related surgical suffixes such as -tomy, -stomy, and -ectomy, recognize the difference between broad disease terminology and cancer-specific terminology, and determine what can—and cannot—be concluded from partial word-part information.
